If you had a chance to get a Nikon 500mm in a hard case in excellent condition for 1800 would you?
The lens is an AI non AF lens.
Would the lack of autofocus be much of a hindrance for hunting the fauna?

That's a good price for 500mm. The MF should not be a problem for static shots.

I shoot mostly with manual when photographing subjects not moving so with a good tripod and depending on what you shoot, it shouldn't be an issue.

How's your eye sight? Sometimes that AF does a better job the one's own eyes. :huh :D

That's one of my few gripes about both my early Canon Digital Rebel and 30d; no focusing prism in the viewfinder. :cry Manual focusing in a flat viewfinder is tough.
Has anyone gone thru the process of replacing their focusing screen, to one with a prism or split, in a Rebel or 30d?
