A species only common to the SW portion of the country. I was happy to get this guy while in La Jolla, CA recently. I was actually photographing shorebirds when this guy kept doing loops catching bugs and would always return to the same rock perch.... I decided he made an easy target and went and set up... a little patience and tada.

Like how the color of the birds fit the background. The photograph says brown, and it all fits. Lovely shot, very well composed... The tada worked

Great shot. I love the La Jolla cove area for photography. You can get real close to brown pelicans and seals and birds you don't see anywhere else.

Very nice capture. Like Photocat, I like how the background goes so well with the subject. These little guys are very common in Orange County, CA. They seem to like to perch on something close to the ground for some reason - may have to do with the type of food they are searching for. They are also pretty approachable and not skittish. Often when I am walking my dogs one will seem to be following me along, lighting on perch after perch........yakking and chirping the entire way! They are fun little birds ... and cute!

Well done. Black Phoebes are great fun to watch, but I have had a hard time getting as close to them as you clearly did.
