Thanks for viewing. No, don't mind at all, just not sure I care for it much? :scratch
To me it looks like a bit too much, however somewhere inbetween might be nice :scratch

Thanks for looking. Yes he is of good size, about 120lbs. Nothing like the rumors about these dogs, although they (and he) can be formitable, he'd rather rub all over you, and get his butt scracthed :rofl:rofl

I tried to revive the Dog a Day thread with a shot of my female, but to no avail. Hows your Labs doing?

Hey Ben,

Nice captures. She looks like a sweetheart. Rotties are ok but I would never own a dog that eats more than I do. :D

Ben, like the shots of the rotties.

Realizing that adjustments are entirely subjective, I thought that I would give a quick go at one of them. There is a lot of diffused light in the scene causing the colors to be subdued and placing a sheen on the fur. I tried to reduce the sheen so the details and color of the fur showed through more without increasing the contrast.

I used the following tools in the order given to make the adjustments:

Hue and Saturation (bumped Sat slightly)
Levels (darken slightly and increased gamma slightly)
Selective Color (bumped Blacks slightly)

Yeah, I think that's the ticket :thumb, not so harsh as "Fish's" take. More importanatly as you have done for me and others here, is to give a little step by step really helps, thanks again.

Hi Ben, nice Rottie.
I couldn't resist having a play as well.
1. Increased the brightness of the midtones slightly using Curves.
2. Used USM at 30%, 75 dia, 4 threashold to try to bring out the texture in his coat.
I then thought the image was too bright so I.......
3. Selected the highlights, put them on their own layer and reduced the gamma slightly in Levels.
What do you think?

As you can tell, everyone has a different take in post. That's one of the great things about post...there's no one right way to do things.

What I did was increase the midtone contrast, bump saturation, darken highlights and lighten shadows a bit too. I don't pay too much attention to the absolute values of the changes...I just monitor the image as I make the change and stop when it looks "right" to my eye.

If I was monkeying around with the raw image, I would drop the exposure by about half a stop, maybe 3/4, improve contrast +25, up saturation +8 and see how it looks.
