Hi Guys,

I'm trying to wrap my head around studio lighting, something I've never had any experience with to this point, so that I can offer some kits to rent. I also plan on eventually using them in my own photography business that I'm slowly establishing. I've been looking at one of the Alien Bees kits and I'm wondering if it would be something that you guys think would be good enough quality to rent and would it work out well for basic portrait work? I've been a mostly outdoor photography guy my whole life so I'm a bit out of my element here. Any thoughts on the following setup?

2 B800 Strobes
2 light stands - not sure on the brand of these yet
1 48" Translucent White Umbrella
1 48" Silver/White Umbrella
Wireless transmitters/receivers

Oh, and not part of the kit but I was thinking of picking up a ring light too.

Thanks,
Jason

You might consider adding the battery kit at some point. I'd also be more
inclined to replace the 800's with 1600's for versatility.

Some users will want to use a back drop. Maybe a set of tall stands, a
cross bar and one or two muslins to pick from?

my experience suggests if you are getting just two umbrellas, make one of them a white shoot thru with removable cover. That way you have the effectiveness of a silver umbrella with the option of a shoot thru.

Also, the foldable lightboxes are very popular.

Heck why not get the Alien Bees kit, with stands, umbrella, all that stuff?

Agree on the backdrop, would be nice to have a backdrop stand, maybe a muslin or rolls of paper (maybe make paper a 'purchase item")
