2 lessons learned today:
1) my new 20d is amazing!!http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/ylsuper.gif needless to say its pretty sweet.
2) taking pictures of birds is alot freaking harder than you people make it look.

the sun was going down and all i had was the 70-200 f4 with me. even at iso 800 i was having a hard time keeping the shutter speed up. most of my shots were blurry or soft. here's one of the less softy's

Hey Jeff,

Congrats on your new camera, it will only get better the more you use it. You're right on both counts: the 20D is a sweet camera and bird shots ain't that easy. I look back at my early attempts and cringe. It takes a lot of practice.

I liked the duck shot. Its a lot better than my first attempts and a good start. :thumb

thanks for the comments and the birding pep talk guys.

it may just be time to unleash the tripod on those ducks...

just check the exif and saw how excited and careless i was being. iso 800http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif, focal length 200mmhttp://dgrin.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif, shutter speed 1/100http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/eek7.gif, aperature 6.3http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/Disappointed.gif...http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/puzzled.gif

moving subjects are so exciting...got to remember to seperate head from butt. maybe a rematch for tomorrow...

Yeah, I too often forget my settings too, I get so focused on tracking and composition. Very nice first shot!
