I have not had any issue with stat-counter log ins.
Although I think I'm going to switch to using www.visistat.com (http://www.visistat.com) - wow do they have a nice looking interface.
I don't know about the rest of you all that use statcounter but I just can't stand the graphical interface on their site - it just looks cheap (you get what you pay for I guess - which is nothing, ha!)
They do charge money though - $20 per month for less than 25k page views per month which is fine with me - with a free 7 day trial period. Thought I'd pass that along to see what others think.
Ideally Id love if smugmug had this incorporated into their site for the pro users !!

Thanks Twin for alternative. But since its recommended by Smugmug, I will stick with it first meantime.
Today I tried again and same thing happen. I really seems to face the problem of not able to log onto Statcounter.
I would presume I can access to their web page when I click onto the counter display in my web page, but nothing happen. I also try entry via IE7 also nothing happen.
I also try retrieving from another computer but also nothing happens.
Could it be due to installing the script and somehow affect my IP address (or whatever) that render this stange happening?
Thanks
Andy

What does this service for $20 have that Google Analytics doesn't have (for free!)?

Im not sure I can answer that I've only looked at Google Analytics briefly - for me personally I like it visi - just tossing it out there for comparison and information.
I can say that their support people are very responsive and friendly - not sure you'd get the same from google or statcounter, but I could be wrong there.
I'm also not sure I subscribe to the notion that just because smugmug recommends one counter over another that it has any benefit from a usage standpoint - they all do the same thing really.

Exactly :)
We don't really recommend any stat packages.... we just let people know that it's rather easy to add GA and Statcounter and that both are free.
Google Analytics is quite powerful, really....

Hi David,
I am from StatCounter and I would like to apologise for the inconvenience. StatCounter is up and running at 100% at the moment and handling its billions of hits each day, so it is not a problem at our end, but I'll do my best to help you out.
Have you installed any software on your pc recently? Some software alters your hosts file which makes StatCounter inaccessible.
Does your hosts file contain this line?
www.statcounter.com (http://www.statcounter.com/) 127.0.0.1
Your hosts file can be found in the following locations.
Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open it up with a program like notepad and remove the line.
For Windows Vista
1) Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4) Click File -> Open
5) Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
6) Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
7) Select "hosts" and click "Open"
8) Remove the line and close Notepad. Save when prompted.
Do you have any antivirus/spyware software installed on your pc? Try to disable this. There is a known problem with Kaspersky Anti-Banner Option blocking StatCounter. You need to uninstall this or specifically allow StatCounter to be accessed.
If that does not resolve the problem then it is likely a problem with your ISP.
On windows this can be detected by clicking "start", then clicking "run"
Type "cmd" into the box and hit return.
Type "tracert www.statcounter.com (http://www.statcounter.com/)" into the black box and hit return.
This will show where on the internet your connection is having trouble getting to StatCounter. You could send this report to your ISP and to us to investigate it further.
If that still doesn't work and you are using windows xp you can try:
- Left Click start menu
- Left Click control panel
- Left Click network connections
- Right click connection you use to access the internet
- Left Click properties
- In the general tab, left click Internet protocol (TCP/IP)
- Left click properties
- In the General Tab, click obtain IP Address automatically
- Also click obtain DNS Server Address automatically
- Click ok
- Restart your computer because it may not work instantly
If we can help you further please do not hesitate to contact us directly at http://www.statcounter.com/contactus.html
I hope this helps!
