Hi you'll,
I've been watching the Snowy Egret for awhile now and I noticed that it has two styles of hunting. The first is when he walks along the edge of the water with one leg out front stirring the water to flush out lunch. Thats neat but no so good for photo ops. Fortunately he has a second style that provides a few more photo ops.
It starts when he gets a running start

he takes to the air and lands at a likely spot

He then starts to dash around, wings outspread looking for prey
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17633220-L.jpg
he makes his strike
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17633235-L.jpg
comes up

and if he's lucky he will have found a small snack and then he starts it all over again

I can only say "Wow"! A very cool series of shots that gives a lot of nice info, even for a selfproclaimed non-birder like myself. :thumb

Hey Jeff,
Thank you very much. The idea of putting together some tutorials is a good one. I'll see what I can whip up.

Hey Jeff,
I'm very happy with the D2H so far. The only negative is that's its much louder than the D100 and taht has scared off a couple of birds already.

Hey Kerwin,
It was nice of the egrets to pose behind those nice backgrounds. It's interesting to see the difference the sunlight makes on the color of the water. I've seen the same piece of water go from a dark blue to a light green all in the same day.

Super series Harry ^5
Plus, he got his snack so it had a happy ending.....lol
So are you seeing the same sort of nesting/mating behavior that we're seeing on the Left Coast? There should be non-stop action in your swamp :clap :clap I just remembered the Eagle :rolleyes Does he have a mate? Now that would be awesome to get a pair of Eagles dancin' :thumb You've got the perfect camera for it too.
Thanks for sharing these,
Steve

Hey Steve,
With birds, as it is with Andy, its all about the food.
The birds around here are nesting but they nest in areas I can't get to. :cry
The Blue Heron Wetlands, up north a bit, has nesting herons but I need more reach at that place than I have right now. I may go over to Sanibel because thye have a very active rookery in their area.
