There were some pretty big storms here in Northern California this last week. We live really close to a pretty huge (when it is raining) creek area. So I thought, now that the rain had stopped, walking down (sloshing) along the water to catch some shots of the area "After the Storm"

About 30-40 feet from me, I saw a beautiful white egret, feeding on the frogs, etc. Of course by the time I got into position, aimed, adjusted lense, etc... well the shot was gone.

I guess my question is, are there any tricks to having your camera ready to go when that "SHOT" presents itself. How do you catch the shot, the moment? I am pretty new to the photog world. Working with a Nikon d40 with ED 18-55mm lense.

Thanks for any comments.

Usually when i go to take shots of whatever, i always have my camera on (because you never know). I set up my camera to proper exposure, daylight, nite time, whatnot ahead of time. This way, all you have to do is pick up your cam, focus and shoot. :o)
