I would like to get an idea of how others perceive this image.

I am looking for a kinda thumbs up or down, and if you gave it a thumbs up, which version do you like the best.

Thanks!!

Here is the color version.

I prefer color version more then B&W. I can't put my finger on it, but B&W just doesn't do nothing for me. :dunno

Hey Sam, I would go with the B&W but I am not 100 percent sold on the composition. Seems like the normal view I would get when I turned on the light in the pantry. I think there could be some better creative angles you could find in there ?

Cheers

Dave

Only because you asked for it and I know you can handle it-

Both of them:
:flush

I think the subject of the photo is in the range of not close enough to be interesting but not far enough away to be interesting either. It is not a still life photograph but not a bigger picture photograph either. JMHO :dunno

There is a lot of different subject but no real strong focus point. The lamp seems soft on the focus and the wrapped cheese is just kind of blah due to the paper.

Definitely color for me. This is an interesting comp. The color version pulls me in, first to the blue lantern, and then invites me to look around. I don't get that with the B/W version.

Hmmmmmmmmm they both look okay, and it would probably look good in Sepia as well :D

If I had to pick, it would be the b/w for me. In the color one, I think the white things in the center of the photo (cheese?) take too much attention because of the brightness. It seems to be less in the b/w.

However, neither of images really do anything for me :dunno

Personally, I'd go with something like this:

Something about the subject matter makes me think that it's a very old picture.... Either that, or selective color and make the lantern colored, with nothing else... Something like (this is a very fast edit, so, not perfect...):

Cheese still ruins the shot though. Totally blown out and pretty much dead center.

Given some time, I could probably fix it with some curve work; something like this:

How about somewhere in between color and BW. . . like lowering the sat level so that it is just slightly tinted. It might give it a more nostalgic feel like an old color print, still would have some color but more subtle...
just a thought . . .

Thanks allot for everyone who responded! Some times I get attached to an image without any reason I can articulate, and it's good to have some feed back.

I need more, and different eyes than my own.

If your sighting in a rifle, and your spotter tells you dead center every time, no matter where you hit, you will never hit the target. :D

I'm definitely rocking the old feel of the sepia version. OR perhaps as someone mentioned de-saturating it until it's hardly noticeable.
