Excellent Great Blue Heron shot. Easily one of the best I've seen here on dgrin. And did anyone notice that his camera is not a megabuck DSLR with fantastical glass, but a Lumix FZ10. Very nice shot :thumb

No, I did not notice the camera. Gorgeous shot. I stopped enlarging my puny birds and took a nap.

Welcome to Dgrin! I think. That is a wonderful heron shot. It would be a wonderful shot of anything.

How long was the lens? I don't know anything about those cameras. I own the same camera all the Canon people do, the 20D.

My longest lens goes to about 420 mm with an extender on it. (I just got it in the month) I can hand hold it. I can barely carry it. I keep hearing about something called a Bigma. I am pretty sure I couldn't carry it, and I know I couldn't carry support for it.

How did you get so close to that bird? Was it the lens, or did you kill it?

Hi Harry,

Florida does have it's advantages! Moved from Indiana appx 1 1/2 ago... and I have absolutely fallen in love with this state. I see your from Fl also! I'm glad you enjoyed the image.

Hi again... ginger_55,

I'll get this "chat format" down soon. It's not just a lens. The camera I use is an all-in-one unit. It is 4mp and has a Leica lens which is 35mm - 420mm f2.8 (throughout the lens) and it is also image stabilised. The camera weighs in at less than a pound. The image was captured at 420mm... so it wasn't necessary to kill the bird. :rambo

Very nice Kirwin :thumb :thumb

As PF points out, you don't have to use a Dslr to get really good results. The area where they help alot is their ability to use long tele lenses. With all these superzoom digitals on the market, you can now get out to 400mm+ without adding a TC :nod

This is a super GBH shot, Kirwin :clap Also, one of the best I've seen here too. You've put yourself in a tough spot. Your first pic was so good, you're gonna be hard pressed to maintain this level of excellence with your future shots.....lol

Welcome to Dgrin :wave and thanks for sharing,
Steve
