I'm a newb here, was encouraged by the positive responses to another picture I posted, so thought I'd toss this out there.
I didn't have any time for setup, this guy was doing the dine n' dash.
Taken with a Kodak point and shoot, steadied against a tree, at maximum zoom.
I only had a few seconds to get the picture!

Thanks guys!
I think he was chowing down on a robin, but I'm not sure.
He literally hit the other bird in the air,(dropped down on it), there was an explosion of feathers, and it was dead before he hit that roof with it.
(Now that would have been a picture!)

Great image with the prey. I think that is a sharp-shinned hawk not a falcon though. It's definitely some sort of buteo.

Someone told me it was a Falcon, and I believed them. :dunno ..I've never seen another one around here!
Now, eagles, we got those coming out of our ears all of a sudden.
They sure are camera shy though!!:D
P.S. I had to google "buteo".

Great picture. A perfect example of being in the right place at the right time. I vote it's a Merlin ( a falcon bigger than a kestral and smaller than a peregrine )

For a point and shoot that is a great shot! I believe that is a Merlin, not a sharp-shinned hawk.

Someone here in town told me it was a Merlin as well.
Yes, ohiofalcon, I was in the right place/right time.
It was pure luck!
EDIT: My point and shoot Kodak has been a great little camera...

ZZR_Ron. Good shot given the circumstances. I've seen Peregrines knock birds out of the air before, turn around in mid air and catch them before they hit the water. It's something to see.. Nice going..:clap
