Agreed... You could mask the apple and desaturate the background in photoshop.

Yep, I agree. This would be awesome if the apple were red.

it would also be a lot better if the background didn't have distractions in it. Are those more desks or radiators or something back there? too much going on.

I agree, the apple red is great, but it needs to stand out more. I also agree with doc that the background is too busy. Maybe you could try cloning it out? Just a thought.

Nice idea. And very clean and simple. To me, the biggest problem is that the subject of the shot, the only thing you want me to look at, isn't lit. It's backlit. So it's all dark, no detail. It needs to be reshot with some light on the lens side of the apple to really work, IMHO.

I like this idea, but I agree the background is distracting. I think that you'll have a great entry if you reshoot with a clean background. I like the depth of the table though...

I agree, the apple is better red. But I also agree about the background.

hmmm i see :) i had actually put the background in there on purpose but i guess i shouldnt have put so much. it was meant to show that it was a classroom. but i guess i didnt have much reason behind it! And i was actually able to lighten the apple but for some reason it looked like it stuck out to much to me and kinda took away from my personal "minimalistic" view on it hehe. Next time :thumb

I like the background. As I search the internet tonight for minimalistic photos I've found many with what I would have said were really distracting backgrounds. When I look at your photo I see and think of a classroom, and the red apple (with the rest in B&W) does it for me. When I look up the word minimalism in the dictionary, I see simple. To me the apple (and photo) is simple, impersonal.
Anyway, just my thoughts...

Now that I know they are desks in a classroom, I like the concept more. I couldn't tell that they are desks. :dunno

The second I saw the first one I immediately smiled remembering grade school, what I mean is you may not need the other desks, an apple on a desk (at least in the U.S.) is a symbol for teacher.
hoping this message finds you well -Ian
