Hey all! I just picked up a new 580EXII flash and was wondering a few things ...

1 - Is there a significant difference between the normal EX and the EXII?

2 - When I'm shooting in burst mode, sometimes the flash will fire but the resultant image will not be properly exposed. It's like the timing between the shutter and the flash is not syncronized. Usually if I power down both the flash and the camera, the problem will be remedied. But is there something maybe I need to be aware of? Is it because I'm using Energizer Rechargeables in the flash?

Thanks all, and Happy New Year!

1 - 580EX II is faster, it's weather sealed, finally got metal foot

2 - probably because condenser aren't fully loaded,
use external battery pack or slow a little down

External battery pack? What do you mean? I'm not familiar with any product like this.

Thanks!

After messing up a few family gathering shoots which I was being paid for, I quickly realized that my batteries in the unit did not nearly come strong enough for the 580EX. I opted for the battery pack as shown in the linked reply below. The Sony charger with 8 Sony 2500ahr batteries now fits the bill. Shoot all night steady and the batteries just keep ticking. Recycle time on the flash is cut by an easy 65%. Works well with my 20D which also has the battery pack.

For rechargeable batteries, Sanyo eneloop batteries (http://www.eneloop.info/whatseneloop.html) are highly recommended. They are available at Costco warehouses.:clap
