hi!

i'm kinda new to dgrin and have only had the 20D for two weeks, sold the 828 to help finance the move and have no regrets so far :D depite being restricted to the 50mm 1.8 and 17-40 at this point, i'm having a ball with this new setup :clap

here are some of the better shots so far... i think. all taken handheld with the 17-40 and shot in raw. any comments, tips, etc appreciated :):

used 'n abused... abandoned truck in the boonies outside of town (middleofnowhere, wyoming)

shoshone river, with heart mountain in the distance
http://www.pbase.com/alptraum/image/40781029/original.jpg

hangin' in there... a tree along the river bank
http://www.pbase.com/alptraum/image/40781032/original.jpg

...earlier today at buffalo bill state park, just outside of cody, wyoming

shoshone river, looking over towards the lake
http://www.pbase.com/alptraum/image/40781027/original.jpg

was shooting the above and taken by surprise... an attempt at birding with the 17-40, lol... full frame

given the speed of the 20D, i'm now hooked on raw... imagine that :clap i had given capture one a try and am now messing around with RSE... if you have any tips or other suggestions please lemme know - it's all new to me :scratch

thanks for looking!

Great images with great clear saturated colors. Very nice. I especially like the old truck. What is it about old trucks anyway? :D Welcome to dgrin Sash!!

Yep me too, that old truck got it all, really like the way the sky sorta frames the right side of the truck and the colors so rich, great :thumb :thumb

As far as why old trucks look so good, well it's just meant to be:
Like antiques
old sword patina
older whiskey
old men or is that older :D
younger women, ooppss sorry went off for a moment :bad :lol4

Did you use a polarizer for frame #3 of the tree on the bank, or was the sky just that blue? I know that sometimes out west the sky is so intensely blue it is hard to believe.

can't afford a polarizer right now, lol... had the darn thing in my shopping cart at one point but thought i'd put the $150 towards another lens first. that's one thing i miss about the 828 - the compared price of 58mm filters :cry

you're right, the sky already had quite a rich deep blue to begin with... some level adjustments in PS further enhanced it.

cheers, sash

Nice stuff, sash. You don't need a polarizer...you're doing fine in post.

Welcome to dgrin.
