do you have macro settings? the only reason I ask is because I think a thumbprint is a cool idea for this challenge and it'd be a lot more interesting full frame (potentially, I think, it would be cool to compare)

I agree with DF. Closer, more wash with the white and deeper contrast.

I think within the next 10 years, fingerprints, retinal scans, and even social security numbers will be passe for ID purposes. We will all be using our DNA as our ID.

in photoshop, use a curves adjustment layer, then pick the white eyedropper. keep clicking on the background until the green turns all white. then, i increased the canvas size and recropped, more along the rule-of-thirds.

i like your idea, a lot.

ps: i don't care what anyone says about my impartiality or not. these challenges are about all of us learning and growing :deal my help here doesn't imply that you'll be picked as a finalist or not :deal :lol3

Alright, now I want the super-duper camera that will take an angled low to the horizon shot that captures the ridges of the finger print in full detail.

Hey, I can dream, right?

see? this is the kind of stuff I want to do. basically what most people might call "ridiculously sick macro shots" :lol4

Definately. I would pay 5 grand for this type of lens before I would shell it out for a super telephoto.

Andy, purely in the interest of learning, how did you increase the canvas size in such a way as to get the fingerprint over there.

I know I could do it, I think, but it would not be the way you would do it, it would be so convoluted and complicated. How do people do it,,,,,,,just do it.

Also, how do you make a blank canvas out of nothing?

I really like the fingerprint photo you're working on for the challenge, it's a great composition with a connection to something very intimate that everyone can relate to, it makes the "red dot on a white field" something more than that, it gives it a story, which as you can see is hard to do...

Great shot & idea:thumb

I would be worried about giving the world my thumb print in case the FBI put it on file. Nice job with the pic though. Care to share the other 9, (just kidding).
