So I regularly rant about hating winter. Then, once in a blue moon or rarer, we have one of those days fit for a movie set. When the dew point and air temperature are close to each other, hoar frost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoar_frost) forms. That was the case today, but early sky conditions were overcast. On returning home from a few errands, the sun was out and I had a free half hour. Here is what I've come up with (FWIW, air temp at this time was about -7C (19.4F).
Wishing that I had beat the sanding truck:

Beautiful, Ann! I mean, it's beautiful as long as you're properly prepared for the chill. It's gorgeous where you are not but I would pass up the chance to take shots like that if I didn't have good gloves. :D
Thanks for sharing! Down here it's tepid and wet.

Thanks! Even when it is bitterly cold, if the sky is blue, it's not so bad!

Hi Stephanie
It is -20C right now. Interestingly, the frost still hangs to the branches. We dropped the dog off at his grandparents, about an hour outside the city, today (we are escaping to Riviera Maya shortly). The frost out in the ocuntry is about 2 inches thick - never seen it quite like that before. Was an amazing drive. If I have time after I pack, I'll process a few photos.
At -7C, a half hour without gloves or hat is okay. Much longer and you need them. I can't run the controls on the cam with gloves, so thats my limit anyway.

Great job exposing the snow and ice! At first I thought number 1 was an IR shot. Beautiful scenes, and something we'll never see in Orlando. :clap

Isn't that funny - maybe that is why I don't like IR - it looks like winter!
Thanks Jen!

Now that is why I want to move from UK to New Mexico... Give me heath and sun. Nonetheless, beautiful crisp photographs, a winter wonderland indeed.
Nice shots, the colors are spectacular. The whites nice and shiny whites. Me like! ;o)))

Sorry for no support in Glacier but I'm new here...and I spent a lot of time already away from class and in San Francisco.
Have fun in Mexico. I have to wait until Jan 18 when I go to Cuba.

OK, as an American, I have seen the word toque all over the place for years... but only just last week learned how it's pronouced. :rofl
Gorgeous shots!!!! The sky is so amazingly blue... and the detail of the frost is awesome. I can't believe how it manages to coat every nook and cranny. I particularly love the red pop of color in the 7th one... the berry, or pod, or whatever the heck that is. (I know nothing about plants. :D )

Excellent Frost photos Ann.:clap It has been incredibly beautiful around here for the last few days. I have been trying to get a few shots of it myself. I live next to a lake that is open all year round, so our frost just keeps building too, although it has been quite cloudy here.
Have an excellent time in Mexico
