The fifth one was the most serious. I made a cooing sound like a morning
dove and he locked on to me instantly.

Thanks Harry. The lens worked pretty well, I had a few duds, but I should
maybe expect that.
I was hoping to get one in flight, but you can walk right up to em. I think
they're used to people taking their pictures.:D

We were hoping to maybe get lucky and find a couple of different types
of owls on our little ride, but it didn't happen.
We saw:
7 great grey owls
5 deer (pictures didn't turn out)
1 coyote (saw it in a field while going 70mph, no chance for a pic)
and one golden eagle (we think, it had all the marking as the one in our book)
I think it was a good day.
Thanks Troy.

I almost thought about reaching out to it, then I had a vision of pulling
back a bloody stump, I kept my hands on my camera.:D

nice set D. #1 is particularly good, especially how that cable cap mimics the owls mask. any way you can make the tree branches disappear?

If anyone's interested, National Geographic recently did an article on Great Grey Owls (http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0502/feature4/), I think it was in the Feb magazine.

The guy in the article warned that the owls get pretty aggresive when they have young and will attack anything that approaches the nest (even bears!). He compared an attack to been hit with a piece of 2x2 with nails sticking out of it!

I got pretty close to a couple of them. They didn't seem to mind it.
I think that these owls are getting used to humans by now. The news has
been talking about them weekly, and a lot of folks have been taking their pictures.
Every time we stopped the car to take a picture, at least one more car
stopped to do the same thing.
Thanks again gubbs.
