View Full Version : The story of a remote shutter release

I always wanted a remote shutter release for my 350D. Canon one was too expensive, so I did a DIY hack(cost me 4$) and created the ugliest remote shutter release in the world. It was badly done too(I am horrendous with soldering).
So as the next best thing, I bought the RC remote from Amazon for around 20-25$ and used that for most of my night shots.

Then I discovered a site called dealextreme.com. Based in HK, they claimed shipping to anywhere in the world for free.
When I was in US I needed a SATA150 casing for a 2.5" HDD. Cheapest stuff available locally(or through websites like buydig, amazon etc.,) was around 40$.
This site had one for 11$.

I thought what the heck, and went for it. 7 days later I had a shiny silver HDD casing working like magic.

With my confidence up, I put this site in my bookmarks.
Now I am in India, and thought why not search for remote shutter release, maybe they have some.
And lo. They had one for 350D priced at 4.82$
Ordered one. They took 4 days to ship it, and it spent another 6 days in airmail transit.

I am one happy guy now.

for all you 5D/10D/20D/30D/40D shooters, don't worry. I know you can't DIY because canon gives you a silly non common plug. So this site has 2 options 7$ and 9$.

I recommend these guys fully
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8161 : Jianisi. This company is actually quite respectable, as much as the Nova thing.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8231 YN. I got 350D equivalent, of this brand, as you can see from the link above.
It feels sturdy and well made.
It has 2 setttings. Half press for focus and full press for shoot!

So all of you looking for remote shutter releases, no need to spend 50$, spend 5-9$ depending upon your camera.

My only gripe. The cord should have been a bit longer!

Based on your recommendations and the ratings at www.resellerratings.com (link (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/DealExtreme)), this is a site I'm going to be putting in my favorites as well. Don't know when I'll use them, but I'll have it when I need it.

Thanks for sharing....

Hmm thats bad. You need paypal to pay, thats the only way those guys accept payments.
If you have the 350D/400D, I have the blueprints for a remote shutter release you can make yourself using a 2.5mm stereo jack and a 3 switches

OK, y'all sold me. I just bought one of the wireless remotes for my D200 from them. We'll see how long it takes to get from HK to Virginia! Hey, for $35.00 it's worth the experiment! Have you checked Nikon's price?!?!?!?
