The Selphy printers are great. The surface of the prints on dye sublimation printers like the selphy are much more durable than inkjets. I have a fancy large Epson inkjet that i use for my art photos (11x14 size), and have a dye sublimation printer that we use for all of our fun photos (4x6). I love them both, but if you are looking for something for normal everyday prints the dye sub is the way to go.
I think the color accuracy on skin tones is easier to achieve and durability of the prints is better on the dye subs are better than the inkjets. I think inkjets offer more flexibility, but will require more time to get good results for everyday photos.

We bought one of the Selphy printers for my parents last Christmas and they LOVE it. Extremely easy to use, and looks just like they came from the lab.

GO DYE SUB!

I love my Pixma Pro9000. Granted the one you are looking at is smaller but, if it performs like mine you will love it. It is the only piece of Canon equipment I will own BTW.
