First time out of Auto mode - New G9

I just bought a new Canon Powershot G9 as an upgrade from my aging S230. I regard the G9 as my first step toward a DSLR. I considered getting a D40X or Rebel XTi, but thought better of it when I remembered that I would still need a P&S even after I buy my dream camera. I can learn what features are important to me with the G9 and then decide on a DSLR.

Here is one of my first attempts out of auto mode:

I don't know if that is any good or not, but I am thrilled with the results.
