I love Egrets

There's just something so elegant and graceful about Egrets, and I have a very short list of things I'd rather be doing than spending time outdoors trying to capture the beauty I see in these magnificent creatures.

I'm so thankful for all of the kind and encouraging remarks, I really am. And I've been struggling trying to decide which images I might want to print and frame, and the preening egret it will be. I think I can save a few bucks with my Christmas shopping and give friends a framed print...:D

Raptorcaptor, I typically bring my 300 as well as a 70-200 2.8. I like to get as close to the birds as possbile and many of the shots posted above were taken with the zoom lens. I like the way my D200 retains focus while I zoom in and out, makes it a bit easier keeping the entire bird in the frame.

Thank you jsedlak, but I have to be honest, it really isn't a one in a million shot. It is a shot I envisioned and wanted to capture, but the only way I could do it was to take two photos, one of the bird, then capture the sunset scenery, and merge the two in Photoshop. This is the only image that is fake, eventhough the scene actually did happen.

jwear, you have no idea how torn I was two weeks ago when William invited me. I wanted to go to the SS but had a prior commitment to go on a fly fishing trip with a friend to the Kern River. I had the cover shot on the Nov American Angler magazine and have another shot in next months issue, and I hoped to get a few more fly fishing types of pics while fishing. Getting paid for photos is new to me, and also exciting. That said, I look at the burrowing owls and the thick flocks of other birds you all photographed, combined with the comradery, and I wish I had gone to the SS.

Dallas, thank you very much. I really enjoy playing with motion blurs, and have recently learned that the background is as important as the subject. Sure looks bad against a blue sky..lol..

I'd love to meet the usual suspects, would be an honor, and lots of fun I'm sure.
