OK, I just got my new Canon Rebel XTi. Everything seems good, but I've found out to my dismay that it does not allow the LCD screen to be used as a viewfinder. The lowest price model that has this feature is the 40D, which is several hundred dollars more. The sales guy at Adorama said that there was an "outboard" LCD monitor, but couldn't put his finger on the maker or any other information.
I do a lot of macro photography of flora and fauna from a low positioned tripod and need to have more than the peek-through viewfinder to compose shots. Having this on the high end point-and-shoot that I've been using made me think that it would be available on a D-SLR, but something about the mirror/sensor means its not on the XTi. I'd guess that that same issue would keep the image from being transmitted out through the video cable, but what do i know?
If anyone has experience with this or can recommend a solution, please let me know. Everything about the package I got is wonderful, but I'm too cash strapped right now to make the step up to the 40D.
