First D300 problem?

I do seem to have a problem with the camera. The battery low light keeps coming on and it keeps shutting down as if the batteries are dead. Yes all the batteries were charged. I did add the MD-10 battery pak to the camera yesterday. I removed it and it still did it. I will see if it happens again today. I had to keep turning the camera off and on to be able to use it. Any Ideas?

The battery problem seems to sound like the one I have with my D80 and, using my VR lense. Nice pics BTW.

My D 200 and D70 did the same thing. It is ashame that Nikon knows the problem exist and has did nothing about it..on top of thats its happening to a D300 thats newly released. Thats why I went to CANON and never have had a problem since

I doubt this is the solution, but you asked for "ideas". My back-up battery for my Lumix was from an aftermarket mfg. It "looked" the same, and it "measured" the same with a tape mearure, but I think a set of vernier calipers would likely have determined that it was a few thousandths of an inch shorter in overall length than the factory-supplied battery that came with the camera. It behaved just as you described, however.

By total chance, I found that if I pressed the battery door with my thumb the camera would come to life and stay on (until I released my thumb). I stuck a couple of paper thickness Post-It notes shims to the end of the battery and never had to use thumb pressure again!

Funny you say that about the VR lenses. I had a non-VR on it all week and it did not do this.

Same thing with my D80. It will stay full with all my other lenses but, the minute I start using the 80-400 it sucks the bars down. Im just thinking it takes more juice to run those lenses.

This has nothing to do with running the batteries down. They are not run down at all but the camera shows a false reading and gives the low battery reading anyway.

Went down to the Nikon Repair center here on Long Island to talk to one of the techs to see if the VR lens could be the problem. They said it could be. So I left them the lens to check it out. I will continue to use the D300 with my 300 f2.8 VR and and one of my non VR lenses to see if it happens again. They said that they had problems like that with the D200 when the extra battery pack was installed. I will keep the MB-D10 battery pack on the D300 on and loaded with (2) batteries to see if it could be the cause.
