Hi You'll,

Just got out of the hospital after my colonoscopy so I haven't been able to use My d2H yet so I figured I would share some of my D100 shots of one my favorite subjects the Great Egret. I had wanted to do some shots of the colonoscopy but they wouldn't let me bring my camera into the room http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/sad.gif

The Egret Egret is a graceful looking bird
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17012132-L.jpg

but he doesn't mind getting funky on occasion
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17012115-L.jpg

He's always on the hunt for food
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17012119-L.jpg

and he's usually sucessful
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/17012143-L.jpg

all shots taken with the 80-400VR and the 300mm/f4 lenses

That last one's great, Harry.

Normally I'd say that a colonoscopy is too narrow a subject to shoot... but not in your case. :evil

Re: your colonoscopy, hope everything turns out well for you :thumb I'm sort of relieved that they wouldn't let you shoot the procedure :uhoh It's not quite the same thing as, say, Andy's Dentist shot.....LOL

You've got your new camera and your gonna let a little thing like a colonoscopy keep you from trying it out? :scratch Strap a bag of ice on your butt and get out there (now there's a terrifying mental image :lol) Remember what they say; No pain, no gain :rofl

Katie Couric had hers on TV! I didn't watch. That is an idea, I'll tell my doctor that I will consent to one IF I can bring my camera.

Don't know how I could make the preparation pleasurable, though. I figure Katie Couric had lots of people to talk to. Camera people all over.

Good egret shots. I would like, pretty soon, to get out and shoot some more birds. I swear, all I have are egrets..........a few, very few, herons, the Ibises, and the X rated hawks.

Harry, could you please send me some storks?
Or flocks of flying birds, many. It would take many shots for me to get one.

Hey Ben,

Thank you for youre kind comments. The egret in the second shot is just one of those egrets who is ticked off on GP. I love catching those reflections.

If the hospital hadn't been so darned strict I could have redefined the "butt shot". :rofl

I've got the D2H loaded up and will be headed out in afew minutes to try it out.

Can't wait to see those shots! I tried out my 70-200 lens, came the other day, tried it on the dogs, as usual. It was the most difficult lens I have gotten. And the D dogs wanted to sit on my lap. I was thinking wide. Then they wanted to run, and I realized that I had to, just had to, go to 1600 ISO. And I don't see how you would get a flight shot at 5 PM without it.

Anyway, enjoy! I bought, yes, bought, a photo mag last weekend, read it last night. There was a photo of your new camera, it looks fantastic. There is a certain similarity, I think, to all these new Digitals, even Nikon and Canon, it is just that they get better and better.

I hope I am happy. What kind of bag do you use? Do you carry it far?

Now, for what I meant to say, I wonder when Fish is going to find out that that bird is not an egret.

Steve
Thanks Steve!

I was using the 500 with the 1dmkII aboard :D I'd parked at the far side of
the pond and was being lazy--walking around the outside to the rookery.
For my shots, I was back against that fence. However, I was a little on the
low side of power compared to the guy next to me. 600mm with the camo
cover, Wimberly and nice heavy Gitzo :D

Your better beamer would have been a good choice yesterday. I contemplated
using flash but trying to light the birds without something like the beamer
would be difficult at best.

BTW, I hadn't planned the trip. I just left (kinda PO'ed).

Ian

Steve Cavigliano
Mar-18-2005, 09:13 AM
Whew, a 600mm (camo'd or not) and a Wimberly seem like a bit of overkill for the rookery birds. Sounds great for getting Harriers and Hawks though. Did you just shoot the rookery, or did you go down to the marshes? I usually start at the Pond and migrate father down the road then circle back. The raptors usually hang around the marshes and sometimes you can get shots of the male pheasant, that resides there too :clap
