Was this taken in Monument Valley? We are going to Arizona (visiting Mother in Law) in January, need to check out some photo ops...
Looking forward for more shots from your trip. Love the lines and the waves in the rock... Well done

This is Journeys, though, right? So what's the long and sordid tale behind the pics from your trip? :D

Maybe a silly question: Can you walk on those, is it sand or rock?
I want to go too now... We are in Arizona in january of 2008, don't know if we will have time to venture north... Is this a part of momumental Valley?
I keep asking my husband, but we are always there in winter time, and he says that those parks are risky to visit in winter time...
What is the deal?
Is Canyon de Chelly close to this point?

Yes, you can walk on them. The surface is hard but it is breakable. For that reason they limit the number of people who can enter the area to 20 a day. 10 through a lottery and 10 by walk-up. If you or anyone else is interest in going to the area I can go over the details and other nearby attractions via e-mail or PM.

This is not part of Monument Valley. It's actually a 40 minute drive (west) from Page,AZ which is a little over 2 hours west of Monument Valley.

Canyon De Chelly is south of Monument Valley by about 2 hours.

I'm not sure what you mean by "risky". If you were referring to the weather, the area does see a little bit of snow in the winter but it is minimal, very infrequent and usually melts off the same day.

O man, I want to go so bad now... I have put it on top of my to do list in Arizona. It is out of this world. I can see why they want to keep it. 20 people a day sounds good. (Although I would be really peeved off if I would arrive there and it turns out I am nr 21)

I would love to get more details about this... I need to work on my husband!

It is the Wave that is limited to 20 people per day.

Upper and Lower Antelope do not have limits as to number of visitors and at times can be very busy.

Canyon X is similar to Upper and Lower Antelope but only one company has permission to take people there and they limit it to 4-6 people per day.

You will not regret seeing any of them.

How long does it take you to drive there from Phoenix? My mother in law lives in Sunlakes, and my brother in law in Glendale. We will be in the Phoenix area in january... I am drooling over those shots you showed us

These are Grimac's shots not mine- though I do have galleries of the slot canyons too.

From Glendale Page is roughly 3 hours drive North. In January there is possible snow from the Sedona area all the way to Page and if no snow it will be quite cold. I would call the tour companies to see if the canyons are open that time of year.

If they are and your family is up for it I would recommend a 2 day trip. Drive to Page see the Canyons and Horseshoe Bend and stay the night- then see the Grand Canyon on the way back.

Photocat,
It took us 4 hours to get from Page to Phoenix. This was with no stops for gas, food, etc.

If you or anyone else would like help or suggestions on where to go or what to see please feel free to e-mail me or send a PM. I'd me happy to help out.

I live in NAz and, can tell you some places to hit when you have a better idea on what your time constraints will be. There are some nice places with in 2 to 3 hours from PHX. Granted not at all like Grimaces pics but nice areas just the same. If you are flying do get a higher clearance vehicle if you rent. I need to go and, hit up Inscription Canyon looking at these pics. I havent been up there for quite awhile. Usually Im too busy working when Im on the rez in those areas.

Great images ! My first visit to this part of the country was last year during an IT seminar. I took a few extra days off at the end and visted the Valley of Fire, Zion and Bryce. Although I had seen pics I was literally blown away by what my eyes were seeing. This year same seminar in Vegas and a bit more time off at the end. Hoping to visit a few of these spots in your photos.

It truly is a remarkable area for photography. Your shots defnitely did it justice.

Cheers

Dave
