This idea is still very much in its infancy (this was my first attempt at light painting, ever) and I certainly need better tools for it, but does this work at all for this theme?

I like it very much - but perhaps just a bit too much light.

Many moons ago (and I mean many) there was a feature in Pop Photo (when it was good) where a photog had light painted a stone wall with consecutive flash bursts (as I recall he walked alongside the wall). It was quite dramatic - as is your's.

Don't quit on the technique - it seems worth the effort.

I agree. Great concept--But, maybe just a little too much light.
