both great shots, but the pecker is too alive to be "minimal" - go with cryo! :thumb

I agree number one is very nice (and very crisp detail) but a bit too "busy" for "minimal", I'd go with number 2 without a doubt!

Though I also love that second shot, I still think there is too much information on it to be classified as minimalist...:scratch

Gosh, now I'm confused. I really like #2. The frame is fine too. But now Roger says it's too much. Hmmm, I don't know. It's just one leaf. Sure it would be cool if it was all white ice. Monochrome is best. But, is this really too much? I don't think so. Darn, if I knew, I wouldn't be asking for help myself. I really like the shot. Great composition!

I'll try to explain my idea on it: when you look at a minimalist pic you must be driven to a sole object/form. In this case I find the ice layer much distracting for not being plain simple, almost invisible... :dunno

Yes, I like the very cold leaf best.

One thing I will agree on, it is safest to stay simple. I have no idea what minimalist is, and when I looked at examples, they seemed all over the map. That could turn some people off, whereas simple cannot go wrong.

I have to say this one really draws me in.....it maintains simplicity without absolute boredom. despite the frozen nature of the subject it has this wonderful flow in form. I LOVE THIS SHOT! :lust

I think the frozen leaf is a better picture...but I think the bird is more minimal.

I believe that minimal in this case is a relative term. While Roger is correct in his definition of minimalism I would say his idea of a minimalistic shot might be tilted to the right while my "Cryogenics" is a bit to the liberal left of the definition.:D

RogerThanks for your honest opinion:thumb While I like this shot a lot. I still am trying for a different minimal shot. I do know what you mean in that there are some photos out there that are so fantastically simple yet breath taking in beauty.
Like I said I still like this shot but I am still clicking away for this challenge.
It just does not haunt me as much with having one in the entry field as insurance.:D

:agree and therefore I think it's appropriate. I found some minimalist shots on one of the pages ginger had found and it was somewhat "busy" by definition but the forms and lines were clear and replicated throughout thereby keeping with the minimalism. darn, where is that picture?!?
