Some years ago I dated a wildlife biologist (fascinating woman to have along for a walk in the woods). We made several trips to the everglades to observe alligators and birds. Here are some of the gators we encountered in the wild.

This mother carried her brood in her mouth from the nest to get some sun on this log.

We discovered a nest with dozens of real small gators but did not see the mother. As I was looking for her she roared at me (a scary sound when you're not expecting it). Here she is mid-roar.

This one was apparently sleeping so I figured I could get up close to him and snap a photo. As you can see, he wasn't very sound asleep!

Yeah, back before Hurricane Rita in Louisiana, there was a state park in Cameron Parish that I used to go to that had tons of gators. When I saw babies I hightailed it outta there because momma was nearby. Anyhow, nice images of the babies and momma. Use a long lens like Dave says. :wink

Nice shots of one of our locals. I will always remember the first time I saw a gator move on the land. That sucker was fast! :jawdrop Ever since then I have always kept a healthy distance from them. They always have moved away from me so far but I ain't taking any chances.
