I'm not really a whipper, but I will tell you what I think, I'm no expert either, but here it goes. I like the picture, the way the deer stands out. But for me, my eyes keep getting drawn, not to the deer's eyes, but more of the deer's neck and some of the flowers in front. I would love to be able to pay more attention to the deer, more crisp would help, I think. Thanks for listening!:D

I would resize the pics so ppl can see the entier thing without having to scroll...I find it hard to get the "overall" feel of th pics when it's that big... but maybe it's just me... All-in-all, Nice pic - maybe try sharpening it a bit in photoshop. :thumb

I've come back to this photo several times.
Try not to get a complex about the lack of reviews/critiques. I know how
hard it is to stay the course on that effort but just know that your not in
that particular boat alone.
Another thing is that a number of people want to see your picture/s but
are not sure or don't feel qualified to comment on your shot.
So bottom line is don't take it personal. Keep shooting.
The sticky / other info to this forum and probably most others is to post your
shots no larger than 800 pixels wide so the shot can be seen on screen all at once.
My "sense" that I get out of your photo here is that it is a pretty nice shot.
I think that it is plenty sharp and well composed. If it were my picture I
would find that the bright background and shadowed / diffuse light of the
foreground are in reverse order. I would probably do a verticle crop and
toss out most of the background keeping the focus on the deer. Then I
would dodge (PS highlights only 47% or so) the deers fur & antlers to
brighten / get some color into those aspects. Trying to come close to
matching the brightness and color of the background.
I'm ok with the out of focus foreground brush though some might very
well see it differently. Matter of taste no big deal.
Nickles worth of IMO. :D Michael

First off, pretty cool shot. He certainly is the focus of the picture. But speaking of focus, while his eyes and face seem to be in good focus, his antlers look a bit out of focus, unless it's just the fuzz. I would crop a bit on both sides while keeping him to the right as you have. Good composition. I would then clone out any of the remaining weed or whatever on the right - it's a distraction. I like the background as is and am not bothered by its brightness.
Good shot, maybe just a bit of fine tuning.

If ya haven't noticed, I kinda like this whipping thing; it keeps me thinking in ways I haven't thought of.:thumb

Looking good! Now I'm torn on that last bit of plant on the right. Part of me likes it since it gives another element, and part of me thinks it's a distraction. Your call. But that little stalk on the left of Mr. Deer should go, IMHO.
BTW, I notice you are in the Sierras near the Cal-Nevada border? I have a place in Graeagle, if you know where that is. Plumas county. Beautiful country. Lots of photo-ops!
Good shooting to you.

I think my next investment will be a photoshop-type program so that I can remove distraction and do some tweeking like suggested besides cropping.
My daughter attends soccer camp in Graeagle and yes what beautiful country, about 70 miles N.E. of our homestead.
Thanks all.

If I told you that this deer was stuffed, would you be surprised?
I wouldn't - and that's the problem for me.
It is only a reasonably accurate reproduction of what you saw and could easily have been taken by a camera on automatic. The image is completely neutral and doesn't represent any qualities or beauty that I associate with a deer.
Sorry.
