Harry, I think your egret is underexposed. Probably happened during the shoot.

You might have been shooting an eagle and forgotten to change.

Next time, after every shot, check ISO, fstop, Speed, by all means the histogram and anything else I have forgotten. Oh, yes, check to see what you are shooting................an egret really should not be that dark.

ginger:D

Could not using a tripod have anything to do with it, if so what? And while checking all that stuff, see if you can get a program that puts your bird in "pause" mode, like on a DVD.

Hey Ginger
:lol4 That sure is a lot of stuff to deal with ain't it. Thats why I will usually shoot at ISO 200 (the lowest the D100 wil go) and only change it if my shutter speed drops too low. Now in this shot I had a chance to do a few trial exposures on the nest before I had to shoot for real. So I knew that I didn't need an EV adjustment. The problem with an Egret is you have the combo of light and dark feathers. So you want to balance out not blowing out the white or losing all the details in the dark feathers. Once you get the exposure you want to check what your shutter speed is and here it was 1/1000 sec. Thats pretty good and with a VR lens I didn't need a tripod. My aperture setting was 5.6 and that worked with this shot because I didn't need a deep area of focus (all the background was sky)
Npw if you take a gander at the histogram you will see that its pretty good, theres nothing by 0 or 255.

I did not go to church, but i do need to be there to shoot the kid and parents. Will get back to you, as I do have questions.

Also, I found a histogram in my camera, messed with it with my messed up flash, discovered that it shows the blown area in flashing white, with the way they should be, too.

This is Bill's last day off...............don't know what to do, have to shoot those birds right, will try with the histogram

Those shots, those flight shots, at the same time, moments after, they were the reason I went back to get flight. That was the reason for the ISO at 1600 at 6PM around. We noted that one was 1/500 and one was 1/200.

I really think the biggest thing I messed up on was the f stop. I have not had trouble hand holding that lens any other place, but then I have not gone out in a gale.

I do have questions, please, I will get back to you.

Oh, seagull,
Don't you wish you were an eagle?
What if you were, you silly seagull?
How would you explain it to your shegull?
