So for those of you who haven't been following my camera troubles. On day 3 of the Dgrin shootout at Glacier I dropped and killed my beloved Nikon D70. I took this opportunity to get myself a D200, and sent my D70 off to be fixed.

The charge for repairs to my camera: $0

"No Charge/Good Will Repair"

Prior to this I've never had any experience with Nikon service. I have had Canon fix a P&S and a camcorder both out of warranty at no charge, but its nice to see I that Nikon also extends the good will.

Its so worth it for companies to do "good will" repairs... I mean by repairing your body for free they essentially locked in a customer to their brand using their expensive lenses, etc etc. They gotta figure if you have D70 there's a good chance you have lenses. What it cost them? A couple bucks in parts and some time for a tech to tear the camera apart.

That's great. So nice to see a good story like this. My experience with Canon service was less than pleasing and cost a lot more than I think it should have.

So now the question is what to do with the second body?

Does the wide angle go on the D70 and the telephoto on the D200 or the other way around? Or does the D70 get converted to IR? :D

My vote would be to use it as a backup. But then I like the IR idea too.

Go with IR.

I'd say wide angle on the d2, cause you never know when you might need to crop in more.

As for ir, its nice, but not a dealbreaker, photogs have gotten off well enough without it :P.

I just got my D70 back from Nikon, if I didn't know better I would swear they just sent me a new camera!

Granted it took 3 weeks, but the list of repairs they did was pretty long.

They even replaced a couple small plastic parts that broke off during drops and bangups and of course gave the camera a full cleaning.

Excellent work Nikon!

And did I menton, all ths for free!!! :barb:clap:ivar

A very nice story and it's refreshing to know that Nikon took great care of
you too.
