Hi Glenn, Wow, I wonder how many (and for how many years) those guys have been working on those poles. Lots of headaches I bet.

great shots --what day did you shoot the red --?? I saw it on sunday .Funny I shot a stilt and got the see thru on the hole in the upper mandible just before the wind blew them away :rofl I have never seen the practice pole before :thumb

Probably been working on it for several generations. Acorn woodpeckers are unique in that they are communal, and their granaries are passed down from generation to generation.

They store them in, then protect them from other Acorn Woodpecker clans that might try to steal them!

Shot the woodpeckers at Starr Ranch which is in Irvine, near some of the fires, on Saturday. Did not do too much shooting on Sunday.
