BOTD found in my yard......

I live in SO.Cal. and don't believe this guy does......it is too big to be a woodpecker........it's really noisy.......and when I saw it drop into our pond it gave me an idea.......is this a Kingfisher? If so, I've never seen one here........do they live here too? Or is this guy confused?

By the way, this is shot through a dirty window with camera lens between pulled blinds ........he's also pretty skittish....

It's a Belted King Fisher.. It's found across most of the states near fresh water usually. The female is more colorful than the male which is rare. That is a male..

Good capture. Kingfishers are very hard to shoot. I've been trying to shoot this one in the Wetlands for months now and he always perches just far enough away to make getting a decent shot impossible.
