Grand Teton National Park, Catheral Group

This is a photo of the Cathedral Group in the Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The Snake River is in the foreground. I actually planned this shot the afternoon before. I had never been to the location, but while there I realized that the sun would rise over a shorter mountain range to the east. So I was set up ready to go in the dark early the next morning and took a series of about 12 shots as the sun rose behind me catching the top of the Cathedral Group in front of me. I hope you like it.

Canon 10D, ISO 100, 1/10th second at f/11, EF 17-40mm f/4L USM at 29mm, no filters. Note: If I return to this location and shoot this again, I will probably use a ND+2 graduated filter to tone down the mountains and sky and bring out the foreground a little better.

Dixie have you seen these techniques, here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=5127) and here? (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=2043) They are both about blending images, so if you shot on a tripod and create in PS or shot a darker image you can simply blend in a darker scene with the mountains and sky, not that a filter won't work, but your already have the photo. I enjoy being out in the Tetons. I have friends that live in Jackson, but I have yet to be there in any season besides winter, someday I hope to see them green and warm.

I really like the snowy panaramic. I've been trying to get out that way during the winter just to get some good winter shots. With me it's just the opposite - I always seem to end up going during the spring, summer or early fall.

Thanks for the blending tips. I've used them before, but for some reason didn't try that on this particular photograph. Additionally, I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS which has the Highlight/Shadows adjustment which works wonders on this type of image. I just haven't gotten around to processing the RAW file for this image in CS yet.

I have to leave for North Carolina shortly for the weekend, and will be back on Monday to play around. I can see that I am going to really enjoy this message board. I love the critiques and helpful tips.
