Well here is another submission for the WP..This is a shot of my boy Rhys who was having a thinking moment during bath time.It really stuck out to me when I was going thru them....I converted it to BW and darkened the background..It could be better as I used on board flash with the D200 as I didnt have the external one yet..
I want the truth..It only makes me a better photographer..
Cheers

I actually like the composition here..... EXCEPT, he looks sad to me, not pensive, and man I hate seeing a sad kid, it breaks my heart. But since photos should me made to evoke emotion... mission accomplished. well done.

Yeah, the water on the face doesn't say "bath" to me. Without your description it looks like a whole lotta tears, hence: sad.
I still can't decide about it. The OOF eyebrow...just can't make up my mind. Overall it's good, and somewhat unsettling.

Eyelashes longer than eyebrows. Ah, to be young again! The darkness of the eyebrows, hair, and eyelashes are great balance to the background. There is a crispness, and freshness, not unlike a fresh sprout, around the ear, that is super. Thanks for sharing.

Great replies, the eye lashes are what really caught my attention on this one. Its interesting to hear a few of you say that it looks sad, something that I never thought about b/c I was there in the moment.

Funny, when I saw the picture, I was like, aww, a picture from the tub. To me, i see the bath and I see the thought. I really like it!!:clap

Honestly, it gives me a bit of a creepy feeling. I feel like I'm looking at a porcelain doll, or I'm maybe looking at a freeze frame of Chuckie who's about to jump out at me and start stabbing me.
Don't take that the wrong way... it's just I feel the right word for my feeling would be "haunting," rather than "pensive" or "thoughtful."
Maybe I'm just odd :scratch

Sweet Jesus, Chuckie jumping out at ya ???..lol...Well that certainly is a critique from the other side of the fence....I can look at that all day and not think Chuckie....:rofl But once again it proves that what we see thru the lens is not always what others see..
I guess what I should of said is that " i want the rest of you to see a little boy in the bath tub thinking deeply about his next move in life..Which in this case happened to be dumping a cup of water over his sisters head...
Its all good man, your honesty is appreciated and on this one quite comical...
Thanks everyone...

Hafta say I'm with CatOne on this one. I looked at the image before I read your text and I thought it was a doll, not a real boy. His skin just looks supernaturally smooth - but I don't have a lot of experience with children and the complexion of young 'uns. :D
Another thought that popped into my mind was an image of a pre-birth in utero child. With the dark background and no eye contact, this image strikes me as pensive, yes, but also very abstract and a statement about our conscience and reality.
Hope I didn't go too overboard. Just bein' honest.

But that just goes to show the level of art that movie dolls have risen too.
I'm still trying to figure out what I think of the picture :scratch - and that's a good thing.

I'm impressed you got light this good with onboard flash. Makes me wonder what the hell I'm doing wrong!
It's a good shot because it's atypical. It's very striking but it doesn't evoke a simple response. There is a doll-liked quality to your model. The long lashes particularly contribute to this. The mood is contemplative, almost gloomy, and ever so slightly eerie. Not a classic portrait and doesn't need to be.

I really like this shot. I didn't get the impression of tears so much because of the wet ear. Also, I have kids, and I'm very used to wet little ones. :D I think the lighting is great even though it is on camera flash. I guess you could go back and tone down some of the shine, but I wouldn't. I like the lighting as is.

I love this picture! The one thing that I found a little distracing was the way the water was on his lower cheek.. Maybe it's my monitor, but it seems as though there's a dark spot in that region. Other than my crazy eyes, I really like it! J.Cleveland
