Makes me wonder about something because I am about to sign up to smugmug, for I have only 3 days free trial. Is there a back up of my site with smugmug in case it get erased??

I copy each of the customize boxes and save in notepad. Like this with a
version number. I can return to any version or see what changed between
each.

CSS v23.txt
footer v12.txt
header v5.txt
java v8.txt
mytheme v12.txt

Before you change anything make a copy.
