Street Dancers (13 images)

Each year our city showcases dancers in unusual urban settings. Its a pretty unique event that puts dancers along trolley tracks, in buildings, etc. This year I took out my brand new 70-200 2.8 IS :barb and shot the event. A lot of the locations suffered from pretty bad lighting, but some not so much. Many of these images have only a little PP (mainly boosting some contrast, minor cropping, and I added vignette to a couple), and probably could do with some more. :D

I'm definately NOT a photojournalist. This is my first time around the block for something like this. The promotor was kind enough to get me a press pass, no strings attached. They just asked that, if I got anything good, to share it with them. I'd like to do that... if there are any worthy! I'd love to know if you like any of these and, if so, which ones.

And, as always, all C&C and any help or suggestions are very welcome!!

You did a really good job of isolating the performer(s). I especially like #3 - I can feel the motion.

For those that were not there, sometimes it's nice to include some context shots - showing not just what is happening, but where and why. Tends to increase the interest of some viewers.

The shots dont tell much of a story in and of themselves. Had I not known what they were about, Id be guessing. That in and of itself isnt hugely important neccesarily, just my take. I like #1, but perhaps it may have benefited from more arms/movement, not sure. In isolation I actually like #10. nice work.

Great suggestions, both of you. Thank you! I wish I had taken a few more that included the audience and/or street scene in the background. Next time, I'll know better!

I think I have a couple in the library that might do that - f they're good enough, I'll include them with one or two of these.
