I think they are great shots Lynn, especially the first one. His natural camoflague(sp) must have made it a difficult shot. He should have blended into the background but you did a great job. Very sharp.

Neily dear... just buy a ticket to Florida.. go to the everglades, go to Mahogany Hammock, walk down the wooden walkway and she's sitting there right now.. there is also a dad, and two chicks but I mess them up. They wont leave the chicks.. she was acutally sleeping and I was right in front of her. You can take the same shot.. but thanks anyway :D :1drink

Hey Lynn,
I am so jealous. I haven't been able to get an owl shot yet. Really fine shot of the owl. :thumb The blue bird looks like a Boat-tailed Grackle.
The comp on the Great Egret is fine. He's on the left and looking to the right. You may want to try to crop it into a portait mode shot and see how tha comes out. The exposure looks pretty good and you got some good feather detail.

I am so tempted.
Did you get any picures of Alligators? The abundance of exotic wildlife in Florida and the good weather make me so jealous. It looks like you had a great trip.:thumb

Lynn don't you just hate when everyone tells you what you want to hear? I mean really.... these shots all suck. Terrible compostion, lighting, detail and way too much foliage to appreciate the birds. Give up. I'll send you my address and you can ship all your equipment to me where it will be used properly.
WELCOME BACK! :cheer :cheer :cheer

Not at all, it's excellent. It's also my favorite shot of the three. Cool. Is there a lot of sharpening in the first one?

The heck you're not.
I love the first one. :super . You got a groovy reflection of the egret and some real nice color in the water. The egret could have helped with a more interesting pose but they can be hard to work with. They just don't take direction well. You may want to select the eye area and brighten that up so more of the eye shows.
On the second one the egret has a little more "personality" and its a very interesting shot. I'm thinking "what is he looking at?".
I'm not sure about the crop on the last one too, Maybe a little more to his left. The first had a bit too much room on the left and this one not enough.
You did great with the exposures on the egrets. They are very hard to shoot. You might be overexposed by maybe a 3rd of a stop but I can't be sure w/o seeing a histogram.

WOW!!
These are all really good Lynn :thumb :thumb The later Egret shots are awesome :clap
Hey, don't worry about messing up shots. With the exception of Andy, we all do it. You know take 100 shots to get 2 good ones....LOL
Love the owl and agree with Shay that it must have been a toughie with the way he blends in with the surroundings. Really, really nice work ^5

Lynn, I, too, love your owl. I like seeing the feet on the egret. I will look at the head shot when it comes out. He has a good eye, love those nice yellow eyes on those birds, can tell right there is they are in focus.
Got to use your long lens, or was that owl so passive that you walked right up with a wide angle.
Looks like a great trip. I would like acres of tame birds, especially something else Harry hasn't taken a photo of. I get egrets, herons, red beaks, then the cycle start again with more egrets than anything else.
I am working on getting my exposure right in a new place I am going, and I would like to get some flight shots, so I can be ready for a whole flock of birds like Harry got, several times.
I have dust bunnies, and Harry got one, too. On our sensors.
