I am interested in any thoughts this shot may provoke; any emotion, feeling, etc?- Even if it makes you feel dead inside. Have at it.

I think this picture evokes the word peaceful for me. Fog has that quieting kind of power. It doesn't evoke a strong emotional response though, for or against.
I looked at this picture on my laptop which meant I had to scroll down a bit to see it in its entirety. That really highlighted the fact that all the color, subtle as it is, is at the bottom of the frame. Actually, that's kind of cool. I rather like the red tones and the fractured tree.
It's an image that bears looking at and it's growing on me :thumb

This shot reminds me of the many many times I've driven along Skyline drive or in the Smokey Mountains in the fog. That's always a pleasant and relaxing experience. However, the shot as it stands is a rather ordinary presentation and does not really evoke that feeling, or any particular feeling, for me. This may be due to the dozens of times I've taken similar shots, or been tempted to do so. The green bank in the foreground says "cartography" -- not something you'd be likely to see in the forest. The shot doesn't present a clear subject. The trees are not well defined from each other. The framing is very close, which is something that could be used to advantage to suggest the closed-in feel of fog, but it isn't doing that for me here.

I'd suggest if the focus was tightened on the broken-off stump, it would be more "interesting".
If this could be re-shot, I'd try to keep the focus on complete tree stands, and not have any partial trees in the pic.

Thanks for the comments. Myself, I like the shot, but it effects me the same way as it did when I took it- I just sat there having lunch staring into it. Didn't do anything for me really either way. Just thought it looked cool. I do like the way it looks a bit flat and the branches sort of touching in silhouette, and the slight light between the trees.
Looks like the weather this week will be -grey-. Might grab a compass and go wander around up there and in it for awhile.

My first impression of this shot was the aftermath of a fire. Then I realized, "No, that's fog, girlfriend!" Anyway... I like the shot, but it feels a tad muddy to me. I guess that's what happens when you shoot in fog. Have you tried boosting the exposure or contrast a tad? Looking forward to see what else you come up with in the fog.
