Horsetail Falls

Hi, this is my first post on the boards, I look forward to meeting those of you whom shall be coming to Yosemite in May. Most of you have seen my husbands work, he is the one whom has inspired this hobby, we have so much fun together, its definitely more expensive with us both involved I mean he can't have a better lens than me..

I never knew I was so competitive he seems to always get the shot, though I learn from him, which is why this last weekend I finally got my shot. What a beautiful scene we have tried to take this for three years or more and to finally be there, and get the shot is a great feeling. So I thought I would share it with you all whom I feel like I know cause I love looking at your pictures and Ed talks about you guys.

Though we will not mention that I forgot my tripod and he offered to go back and get it, and I was all I don't need it. Then we get to horsetails with like a bunch of photographers whom lightly tease me cause I don't have a tripod, I heard you must have a steady hand. I looked around and I was the only one without a tripod talk about pressure. I was like I can't have nothing to show and I feared they would be blurry like everyone said. So I saw this color around the tree, and I just had this feeling that was the color the falls would be if we waited and I laid down in the mud and I became the tripod and it paid off. Yet you can be sure I will never forget my tripod again.

Thank you, Yes the last couple weeks in February, if everything is just right, you can see horsetails turn into a firefall. Awesome to watch and it was very cold...I can't wait to look at your pictures thanks for sharing your site.

A great shot. I think I like it even better now I know the ordeal you went through to get it. Excellent that you didn't back down, but managed to find a solution that helped you get just the shot you wanted. Perseverance paying off. :D

Folks, you have no idea of the teasing she took from the other photographers there that evening. ( ok, maybe a little from me as well )

I'd challenge any of the people there to do what she did without a tripod in that light..

Hi, I love that photo. Just love it. I do work without a tripod. Sometimes shoot 30 photos to get one without blur, maybe an exagerration, and may be not. I don't like tripods, did not get one over 100.00, though it was supposed to be very good, etc.

I usually go somewhere about 3 in the afternoon, with no idea I am going to want to take sunsets, or night shots. Have not gotten a city skyline yet, not when it is totally dark. But I didn't have a tripod........didn't hurt to try.

My husband is a pro photographer who photographs high school seniors and other high school related things, for a company. We met in the 80s, he was going to show me how to take photos. Me with my Nikon, all my lenses, etc. And he was going to show ME how to photograph flowers.

Anyway, he no longer photographs with me. Just says he has no interest. I wish we were more like you and your husband, wish I hadn't been so quick to judge who was better, and so verbal about it. But he really doesn't have the time or the intense interest. He does enough photography at work, I guess.

Well, just wanted to compliment you on a great shot. Without a tripod, you do what you gotta do. I have not laid down in the mud yet. Will try that next.

:): Hi Andy, I have to say since I finally signed up I love your work and you and Ed have taught me my first instincts to take the picture with people in it can really make the diference. You would like Mirror Lake its incredible to see the reflections of people in it. I really wanted to get Ed and our daughter but the spot was always full. Next time.

Thank you for the compliment, I have been trying and waiting to finally get my first picture and his expression and admiration was the best inspiration. Though I will not say the shot because this is just the beginning..

Also next week I will try to call the hotel and get you the name of the caterer, it was shut down tight when we were there. I believe they open back in May so we will give them there first run..

Thank you for the compliment, I have learned now I will do anything for a great picture. You know I understand what your saying, and don't be to hard on him I think it would be like Ed and computers if it was not for photography I bet he would not be on one when he gets home. I did have a couple blurry ones before I saw that picture and a couple others I took. It never hurts to try I have had a hard time getting used to the tripod idea..Yet I have seen my pictures and his we have some of the same shots but mine blurred so I know the importance. Yet anything is possible..I would love to see some of your work somtime.

I work with Ed and he's been a great inspiration to me as well and I can appreciate many of your comments. Ed had told me about Horsetail falls and this phenomena and I'd planned on going up that day as well. Something came up though and I decided to stay in town, but I'm so glad you both made the trip and that conditions finally prevailed!
