Please lay it on. The shot was taken in the rain on a gloomy day outside of Seward. I ran the nik midnight blue filter, dialed it down a little and used nik sharpen. I wish the spout wasn't smac in the middle of the picture. I tried other crops but they didn't work for me. Whip away. Getting closer to photographing what I want to see- but not there yet! My skin is thick.http://gchappel.smugmug.com/photos/203968612-L.jpg
Thanks.

I'm new here to the WP (not quite qualified to make a C&C). I just wanted to say those clouds are beautiful. It would have been a great photo even without the whale and spout. Only thing I don't like are the really bright whitecaps. Overall I really like the moodiness, textures, and tone. Kudos!

I like the tone and the color quite a bit:thumb . Gives it a nice, moonlit moodiness.

The water looks slightly over sharpened to my eye, and I agree, the waterspout needs to be moved off center somehow.:dunno

Beautiful image. I'm not convinced moving the spout offcenter will be better, but it's definitely something to take a look at it. Otherwise the shot is beautifully rendered and composed. Nicely done.

My only nit is I'm not too crazy about the bordering. The top & bottom borders look like the registers are off.

I ride a ferry to work 5 days a week and have taken a few thousand shots of similar components (whales only occasionally during October and November) over the years. I wish I could have taken a shot like yours. I like just about everything in this shot. The whale, the water, the clouds. The blue cast I had not thought of so I’ll try it.

Thanks for the feedback. I am still working so my photo print matches my mental image. The world can be so beautiful- but all too often my photos do not capture that. This one goes up on my wall. Lots more neat stuff to see!
Shoot more.
