Been lurking around here for a few months now. Figured I may as well contribute to the WP...This was an early morning shot around the Wakefield Quebec area..After playing around in PS and LR this is what I ended up with..

Whip away !!!

I think you got a really nice "low key" result. Pleasant composition. Like the color tones. Also think it has good balance in the lighting and pleasing sharpness to the left and softness to the right.

Only nit I might have is that think I am seeing a thin redish/orange artifact above the far distant center mountain ridgeline. Is it me or is it there :scratch

Nice job with this shot. :thumb

Nicely done. Good for you for going for the low key / high color treatment. It's working. My response is: warm & cool; serenity; a little spooky the way early morning fog often is.

Were I to hazard any technical critique it would be: consider cropping just a bit off the right. There's a lot of unfocused space there, maybe too much. Take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks everyone for the responses..I took this picture last weekend and it is one that really stuck out when I was going thru them. It was really my first attempt at getting up before sunrise and getting to the location . I have to say that it was pretty surreal and definitely worth it.

I''ll be heading back this weekend to work on a few more ideas...

Thanks again. The final print I did end up bumping the shadows just a bit to reveal a bit more of the boat.

Cheers

This is such an arresting shot! My first impression when I saw it come up on my non-calibrated monitor was "WOW!" Then I looked at it with my calibrated monitor and still felt "WOW." But here's where it comes down to taste. I felt it was a little too orange. Have you tried other color treatments? Just wondering what they would have looked like. Even so... WOW. :jawdrop

Dave this is absolutely stunning to my eyes. Looks great on my monitor I wouldn't change a thing except what you already say you have done, which is to bump up the boat shadows. And that I would do very, very sparingly. I like the range of contrast from the bright light in the sky to the dark mysterious shadows. Reminds me of a beautiful book cover........and I would want to read the book just for this cover!

I think it's gorgeous. Peaceful, dreamy, and almost like a painting.

I find my eye drawn to the leaves in the upper left though. They are the only non-dreamy elements in the frame. That detracts a little from the image for me, but then again, I'd be happy if I had taken it.

Thanks for sharing.

I liked Dave's picture so much I asked him to guest post on my photo blog. He was kind enough to oblige me! http://glassification.com/wordpress2/?p=92

Very nice. I'm going to assume much of the bronze tone was added in post-processing.

Two things I notice:

I would like to see a little more detail in the lower left corner. For whatever reason, I want to *see* a bit of what's missing in there... from the boats.

It's a bit "snaggly" in the upper left corner. With the leaves silhouetted on the sky I don't want detail in them, but there's a branch or two more than I'd like... it's just a bit busy. I might clone stamp that one small limb coming in from the top of the frame.

But otherwise, very pretty and nicely calming.

So here is a revised edition...Just bumped the shadows a touch..and cleaned up the leaves in the top frame...

Subtle, but important changes, IMO.
