From their site:
We are not accepting orders at this time.
Our web operations will resume 8:00 PM EDT Saturday.
Our Store, Mail Order and Shipping will be closed from
Wednesday September 26 at 1:00 pm EDT
and will remain closed through Saturday October 6.
we will reopen Sunday, october 7 at 10:00 am.
If shipping will be closed until October 7th, then why would they accept web orders? I was hoping to order a Canon 24-70 tonight.

Well, they start accepting web orders as soon as they can after they're done observing their religious holiday. And they normally don't ship on Sundays, AFAIK, so it all makes sense to me. :dunno
Can't fault them for sticking to their beliefs! :D

I agree. Not their fault at all. I didn't catch that it was holiday. I just missed the boat. I finally built myself up to buy the lens. I guess this is a sign. :huh

Its actually a nice thought, for we live in such a fast moving, demanding society, that BH would actually observe a religious belief, being that they are such a big company. This actually clarifies why I could never put together the statement on their website, that they are closed on the weekend.

I really respect BHPhoto for doing what they do. It isn't very often that you find a company that has such religious convictions. Most employers are only out for the almight buck. I have always respected Chic-fil-A Restaurants for closing on Sundays to give their employees a chance to go to Church.
BHPhoto always gives you fair warning that they are closing on certain dates.

Inconvenient as it may be sometimes, I agree. Not all do though, I actually had a customer rip me up one side and down the other one time because we were closed on Thanksgiving. Imagine that, a retail camera store closed on Thanksgiving the shame...said "I'll never shop here again" Darn.

Well put.
I am a religious person, not Jewish, I am LDS, but knowing the owners of B&H are strong in their religious practices makes me want to buy from them more. Kudos to B&H.

Just an FYI (For your info), It looks like Adorama is doing the same thing. They are closed until the 7th according to their website for religious purposes. Good for them and BHPhoto:thumb :clap .

Respect it or not, I know for a fact they missed an order, as my wife bought me the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro for my birthday. She tried B and H as she has heard me talk about them and sees their catalogue in my office, but my B-day was the 8th and she waited too long to order. She paid $10 more than B and H, but it made it on time (and was a big surprise, or I would have just suggested waiting). Just starting to test the lens, but very, very happy with how sharp it is right now.

Careful. Broad generalizations don't work out too well for the originator.

In my lifetime, we've gone from a Monday-Friday, 9-5 business environment
to a 24x7 anything anytime. Which leaves little time for anything family
oriented. I see this as a step forward for such a large company to take a
break to celebrate something they believe in.
Just my $.02 worth.

And after all is said and done, our orders were shipped and here today! I am a 100% supporter of B&H. What where they thinking; taking a holiday off from work? This is the USA! (sarcasm noted?)

AMEN...I can remember the days (now I'm telling my age) when you couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays. If you went to the grocery store the isle would be blocked off or the items covered. My how we have changed. I am not jewish but I really respect the stores that close for their religious holidays. If you have to go somewhere else then so be it. I am sure that they understand that they might loose a little business but they are willing to do that. Great for them.:bow

One saying keeps coming to mind whenever someone whines about B&H's well-known, and well-posted holiday schedule: "A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." My, how spoiled we have become.

Their religious beliefs and practices are all well and fine...but they are also running a business and have to accept the consequences for their actions. They cannot sell merchandise if they are closed. They may/will lose business, money and perhaps long term reliable and steady customers. Consider a first time customer visiting their site. They find it closed. Doesn't exactly make a good first impression or build confidence in them to deliver when needed.
Hey...it's their business. Do with it as they like. If I need something and they are not open....on to the next etailer I like/trust. There are plenty of more business minded E-tailers/retailers that will gladly take my money. If B&H or Adorama are open when I need something...they usually get my business, but they have lost out on several sales over the years....including a Canon 20D and a lens. Good for them. :D

We appreciate this, but our owner places his respect for his Deity above the last dime he could squeeze. We take pains to publicize our closings so as few as possible are caught unawares.
Thanks to all those who posted kind comments and observations about us.

You may find this quaint, or even hard to believe, but until this year you couldn't buy groceries or liquor or most anything else on Sundays here in Nova Scotia. Small corner stores and small drugstores were permitted to open on Sundays (and a few others) but none of the large merchants. They had a plebiscite a couple of years ago and slightly more than half of the Nova Scotians who voted wanted things to stay as they were. It changed anyway, due to legal wrangling and political pressure. I guess you can't hold back "progress" forever, even here.

Also in the full communication department, B&H also tells its vendors that they are going to be closed. I know cause I work for one of the vendors, I can time the High Holy days each year by when the new person in inside sales will ask me why B&H is closed.

In New York state you cannot buy beer before Noon on Sundays and until a year or so ago liquor stores were all closed all day Sundays.
