Hi - recently travelled to Lisbon where I did an excursion to Sintra. Located on the top of a mountain is a medieval castle dating back to the 8th century. Absolutely magnificent structure! Photo processed via HDR technique.

Nikon D50 + 18-200VR lens @ 20mm, aperture f/22,shutter speed 1/100.

Cheers - Herman

Beautiful picture. At first glance, it looks more like a painting than a photograph. Thanks for sharing.

i agree with Yukio, it does look like a painting, but i like that in shots like this. i love seeing a photograph at a home or in a art show where you have to second guess yourself.

Would you mind a quick history lesson for me?

What is the castle made from? It looks like concrete, but I didn't think they had that back then. Just curious.

I don't know about this particular structure, but I do know that the Romans used concrete in building the Colusseum, which goes back WAY farther than the middle ages.

Thought they used stone...

Shows what I don't know. Thanks for the info.

Not to hijack someone else's thread, but you are correct. They did use stone, and marble, and travertine for the structure. Seating supports were concrete.

Back to the thread at hand, those are some gorgeous images, Herman. I especially like the composition of the first shot, and the contrast of color is really eye popping. Good work. :thumb
