I'm wanting to change my site, so instead of having *everything* it's more tailored for potential clients, hiding the photos of drunk friends, etc. and probably things like smugmaps.

I also want to be able to hide some galleries from EVERYONE, so I can use Smugmug as photo backup...

So, as I understand it, I can make private galleries just for me (and send the URLs to friends as needs be), then I start to get confused!

There's SmugIslands, Sharegroups..... Ultimately I guess I want:

1) Clients to go to paulbrock.smugmug.com and just see 'professional photos'

2) Friends to go to paulbrock.smugmug.com, or a subgallery, or log in and see the 'silly' photos, comments, smugmaps, etc.

3) Me to see it all + private galleries!

Can anyone please suggest the best way to do this? Should I be considering 2 separate smugmug accounts?

Cheers,
Paul

You could create categories, Friends, Family, then hide them from your
homepage or galleries box with a little javascript. They would need the
direct links like this to find.

So funny, I finally figured out this is the best way for me to do this earlier TODAY.

I now instruct my family and friends to go to www.lynnehulbert.com/family anytime I cover a family event. "Family" is a category I created, and then I created subcategories for the different "sides" of my family (I don't care if they see each other's, in fact, they usually want to). There is no navigation from my home page or site to get to this URL, they just have to know it. That way my friends-and-family-priced galleries aren't navigable to my client's eyes, BUT i don't have to manage private/passworded galleries. Hope this helps, to see it in action. :D

That all sounds good to me, thanks for the responses! I guess I'll be upgrading to Pro then....
