I've been shooting volleyball for the paper the last couple weeks. Took a couple games to dust off the cobwebs, but I think they're looking better than last year. I've been using the 85mm f1.4 pretty much exclusively with my D200.

This gym is too dim and requires a flash. ISO 1600, 85mm, f1.4 1/250 SB800 on TTL

No ball, but I liked the float. ISO 1600 85mm f1.4 1/400

Nice going for 1600. Mine never seen to work out. That first shot is terrific.

Sean, they look pretty darn good to me. Especially at 1600. I have been shooting with my 70-200 at f2.8. I am going to a game tonight and plan to break out my 85mm f1.4. One of these days I am going to get that darn ball in focus! Maybe I will just go out a take a photo of it sitting still on the floor.:D Most of the gyms around here have poor lighting and you can't use flash.

I'm using Noiseware to clean things up. I've used a 70-200 f2.8, but the available light just isn't adequate. f1.4 to f1.8 seems to do the trick. I shoot in one gym that has horrible light. I have to use a flash even at f1.4. Interestingly enough I've never had a complaint. I usually talk with the coach before using it and let them know that I will stop if it's a problem. I've never been asked to stop though.
