This is a sculpture made of stainless steel and is just outside the entrance to the National Air and Space Museum (part of the Smithsonian) in Washington, D.C.

Interestingly enough, (sorry if this falls into the category of "Too Much Information") the texture on the base of the sculpture was not put there by the artist. It is, in fact, nothing more than bird droppings from the flock of pigeons that are always roosting on top of the sculpture. Looks quite disgusting during daylight hours, but somehow, at night, and with the extreme angle from which I shot this, it resembles stars or asteroids streaking by. Who knew?
