Another mixed (shooting + postprocessing) assignment: create a faux cover of a faux magazine.

Cover should contain:

A magazine title
A primary subject (a person, an object, etc) which is related to the magazine theme, and a text related to it. Multiple "targets" are ok, but no more than three.
Your name (and the name of your studio if applicable, faux names ok)
Other issue's highlights
Don't forget the barcode, the issue# and other typical cover attributes.Your work should make us longing to subscribe! :deal

Fresh work only (both shot and pp). Please link the EXIF of the original photowork.
Postprocessing unlimited.
For the extra credit please include the "making of".
One entry per post, please (multiple entries ok as always).

For the rest of the rules, index, etc. please refer to this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).

Let's get you on the cover!

My proposal is rather poor. No. It is poor. :cry
I am working on it and later, I will be able to place the bar code.
Meanwhile here is my attempt.
EXIF (http://antoniocorreia.smugmug.com/photos/newexif.mg?ImageID=192802355) ( At last (!) I can place correctly the exif ! :wink)

Sorry for the delay, my day-time reply disappeared somehow...

Thanks, Antonio! :thumb

One thing: I don't know about the Portugese magazines, but in US, Russia and some parts of Europe I managed to visit the front pages are ususally covered with texts - very expensive ads real estate. Your entry reminds me more of a single full page ad.
Also, they usually don't have a large matte with border, but rather blend the subject over the whole page.

It's not late Nikolai. :D
I think here we are getting a little away from photography.
My practice is not as graphic designer and perhaps for that reason my proposal is so poor.
I don't have the skills for this nor the know how.:dunno
And I am not a genius either, oh no. :huh

Anyway, I like it because it is simple and transmits the message. :dunno

I have placed the code and I post two covers. One in Portuguese and the one in English. This makes sense. After all, I am a native Portuguese.:wink

wHine=to complain; to cry; to bitch about

Here is one with my in laws on the cover. All you older folk, don't be offended- it is a running joke in our house to make fun of growing older. (and truth be told, I held back so you wouldn't be offended!)
I am going to have it printed for my MIL's birthday and replace the cover of a magazine that she likes.

So, Nikolai, since this is your brain child... where is yours?

I have an assignment just like this to do an birthday party invitation in the next few weeks for a friend. I have planned the image - now I just have to shoot in and put it up here (After Wedding Photographer Boot Camp!)

This was too fun... :D I'm going for the extra credit, so here's the step by step.

1. Take cover picture

EXIF (http://blackcatphoto.smugmug.com/photos/newexif.mg?ImageID=195943354)

2. Seeing several things wrong with the photo, I decided to view this assignment as a challenge for doing "touch up," as the pros would have to do. I followed several of the skin tone and smoothing tutorials on here to arrive at a slightly improved photo.
http://blackcatphoto.smugmug.com/photos/195943047-M.jpg

3. Make final crop, adjust background color, and add barcode.
http://blackcatphoto.smugmug.com/photos/195941682-M.jpg

4. Switch over to InDesign, import cover photo, and add on text for final cover image.

Thank you! Great entry and nice steps! :clap
My only fuss is that the top of the head shows some rather clear "photoshopped" edge, which kinda kills the effect a little since everyone nowadays know where to look for it;-) :wink
To work around this I would siggest an original b/g that is clearly different from the color of the hair, so you can more easily and cleanly isolate it. :deal
And yes, great titles! :-)

Here's my try at the cover art.
Very nice entry, thank you!:thumb

I'd say, lighting is a little bit flat for the concept. Drummers are usually "rock concert" material, with all the dramatic, oftne colored lighting. Also background is very "beige" and "non-rock". Other than that I like it a lot!:clap

Nah, I missed a few, I'm still going through the results of WPBC, so this was kinda quickie... :dunno I basically picked up a frame from the "formals", threw in the caption, barcode and article titles, and went on to culling...

You pretty much summed up the 4 days right there on the cover. Thanks again for all of your help in San Diego!! Look forward to shooting with you again in the very near future.

Thanks Jeff! It was definitely fun, and you were a great part of it! Luckily, we're both here in SoCal, so I do hope we'll be able to come out and shoot together. I can be your secondary whenever you need me:-) :thumb

Well I was at Fashion week and when I raised my camera, this model went right into a pose.
Can't touch that Wedding cover, but I won't submit it anytime soon if I try! (don't think I have the right software)...

Do you think you can "move" the main title "behind" the model's head? :deal
Also: barcode/label? your own promo subtitle? :wink
