So i find myself heading to japan in about a month now...

All i currently have for camera gear is a digital rebel xti, a tamron 28-70 2.8, and a nice external flash (cant think of name of it right now for some reason, but friend helped me pick it out).

My thing is i dont really have alot of money but i know that if i had another lens or 2... like maybe a 70-200 and or wide angle. I'd be able to get alot more photos worth it and seeing as how its a once and a life time trip i might just have to bust out the old credit card.

Seeing as how you all travle often and have more experience in this than me what would you recommend?

Are you currently in a major metropolitan area? Can you rent glass?

If you can, rent a 16-35 f/2.8L, and maybe the 70-200. My last time, in Tokyo at least, I was yearning for wider glass, not longer, but the 70-200 will let you pick out candid urban portraits. Depends on what you're into.

When I got an opportunity for a possibly-once-in-a-lifetime trip, I went wide. I had the venerable 24-70/2.8 & 50/1.8. I added a Tokina 12-24/4 and made good use of it. I really didn't miss the longer end too terribly much. So, I'd say look at that or its perennial rival, the Canon 10-22.

Honestly i have no idea if i can rent glass from anywhere near me i will check in with my friend who got me into photography :D

And yea i definatly know i will want a wideangle cause i want some great memorable photos!

70-200 is more for a just incase cause i dont want to be over there out of options if you know what i mean.

most of the things on that website are currently unavailable though but i will keep an eye open.

Thanks for the advice.
