If you don't mind me asking, why are you seling the lens? I have read the reviews of this lens and I hope to buy one in the near future.
I don't mean to hijack the thread or turn the thread into a lens debate.

So who gets my '82 mouldy f/? 80-210 tamron then ?

I also have a 300 f4 L IS.I recently purchased a 1.4 extender,So Im reaching 420 @ 5.6
Seems like overkill to me,so something has to go.

I'm very tempted as I just sold a bicycle and WILL be buying long glass. My only question: how big in the frame will a 3 inch hummingbird be from 12 feet away (the minimum focusing distance)? If you have a sample (non cropped) I'd love to see it.
oh L glass... here I come!

Thanks for that. I hope to get this lens later this year and was afraid that it would be a bad buy. From what I have read it is a very sharp lens and focuses quickly.

So are you now keeping the 300mm f4?
I was doin some ciphering in the hot tub last night, and concluded that with a 70 - 200 f2.8 and a tc and a 400 mm, I would have a pretty nice, non overlapping combo for soccer and birds and such. Now if I could find some cash......

I'm getting lost in the discussion. :( Which lens is the very sharp and quick focusing lens? The 300/4 or the 400/5.6? (or both?)

I would say they are both not too shabby but if you look at the net reviews all over the place there is nothing but praise for the 400 speed of focus...particularly in fred miranda.

A good review of the 400 5/6. That's why I'm putting it on my list. ( when I get it is another story:rofl )

That's quite a review. Now, what I really don't need is someone saying "the 400/5.6 is the perfect compliment to my existing 70-200/2.8L with 1.4 TC" ...

Ok folks, your going to talk me out of selling ithttp://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/icon10.gif
I had a 100-400 and I thought it was the pitts.
Im gathering primes and next will be the 180L macro.
I have had a lot of different lenses and I think the Bigma (Sigma 50-500) was much sharper on the long end than the 100-400.
Im rambling on here and I could go on forever about all the lenses I bought sold and traded.http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/xzicon_smile_cool.gif

I know I said earlier that I wasn't trying to turn this into a lens comparison thread but I lied:rofl
You didn't like the 100-400? did you find it as soft as the review above shows?
sorry for the hijack, perhaps I should start another thread?

Shay. Hey,I think it would be cool if you started another thread in which we can discuss are past, present and future glass. I have sold, traded and bought many.Im still on my journey, searching for the right lens that fits me.
Might get more exposure.
In the last year I have gone through a lot and there is a few I want again.

Ian has started a thread for lens reviews. Put your comments and reviews of the lens you own and want to buy here.
